It will not be long before you will see the new Mustang Boss 302 thunder down a road near you. Ford took the wraps off the new car that is based on the 5.0 liter Mustang GT this past weekend at the Laguna Seca raceway in Salinas, California.
The brand new 2012 Mustang is built on the iconic Bosses that were made famous for their looks and performance back in the late 1960s and early 70s. However, Ford wants it to be known that the New Boss is more than just a copy of the cars of yesteryear. The V-8 engine of the new Boss is being amped up to 444 horsepower thanks in part to new intake and improved upon camshafts. It also will have a six speed manual transmission.
The new Boss can hit a top speed of 155 miles per hour. The looks of the Boss 302 are impressive as the design team at Ford did a great job in bringing back the spirit of the classic Boss. The grill and fascia are innovative and the splitter on the lower front looks great as it cuts down on drag and front end lift when the car is blazing down the road. The sleek appearance of the car is accentuated with side stripes and a black or white roof that matches the striping. The body of the car will be available in some amazing shades of racing red, blue, white, orange and yellow. Chief engineer Dave Pericak said that the Boss is a well respected car and that Ford was not about to put that name on a new Mustang until they had made every last detail perfect.
For those Mustang enthusiasts who wish for more than this, Ford will also offer the Boss 302 Laguna Seca model, which is a limited edition that comes with a racing aero package.
